Library/Reading Counts

Ocean View ~ Reading Counts

On September 1st we will launch the Reading Counts Program for the 2016-17 school year for students in grades 3-6. It is a simple and fun reading program that has many rewards and educational benefits for our students. The goal is for students to find books at their reading level and reap the many joys of reading!

Here’s how it works:
  • Students are annually tested with the Scholastic Reading Inventory. From this inventory assessment, students are given a lexile level letting them know which books to choose at their independent reading level.
  • Students use the Scholastic Book Expert or Book Wizard online to find a book at their level. http://src.scholastic.com/bookexpert or http://www.scholastic.com/bookwizard
  • Students read the book.
  • Students take a short, 10 question quiz and score a 70% or higher. Tests are taken in the library, computer lab, or in the classroom.
  • Students earn points toward individual rewards given out monthly in the classroom.

It’s that simple!
